About this title
The original plan is simple: an ideal escape for two. Victoria's presence immediately rewrites it. She carries a confidence that Claire has not yet developed, and the mood in the house changes as soon as she settles in. What should have been a private break turns into something more uncomfortable: a competition with no declared rules, conducted largely beyond Lucas's understanding, which he appears to be losing on both sides. Everyone remains outwardly polite and nobody states the problem directly. Sooner or later, however, Lucas will have to confront the question he keeps refusing to acknowledge.
