She is warm, confident, and far nicer to Ryan than he expected — and she keeps turning up exactly where he is: shared chalets, long frozen evenings, small reasons to stay nearby. His father notices none of it. Ryan knows perfectly well where the limit lies, and spends the week being reminded of it. Yet with every run down the mountain, the boundary he promised himself he would respect gets a little harder to locate. Something is stirring that he never planned for and cannot name, and the holiday is far from over.
