The plan was simple: a perfect vacation for two. Victoria's arrival rewrites it. Claire's mother carries a confidence her daughter has not grown into yet, and the mood in the house changes at once. What should have been a romantic escape becomes something quieter and far more uncomfortable — a competition with no declared rules, waged mostly out of Lucas's sight, and one he seems to be losing on both fronts at the same time. Everyone stays polite. Nothing is said out loud. And sooner or later, Lucas will have to answer the question he keeps refusing to hear.
