About this title
Victoria is Claire's mother, and she has invited herself along. She is nothing like the quiet relative Lucas imagined—she is sharp, playful, and always ready to steer the conversation somewhere unexpected. A simple getaway becomes an ongoing lesson in the difference between what Lucas plans and what he actually does. Claire notices the small changes, and Lucas notices them too, though he keeps handling them badly. The vacation is not over, the pool is still waiting, and Victoria continues to set the pace while Lucas struggles to keep up.
