The machines hum oddly. The staff smile a little too long. The dormitory for night workers has rules that nobody bothers to explain, and no one there seems in any hurry to leave. On his very first night, a soft hand reaches out to him in the dark, and Peter starts to understand what this factory actually produces. Every shift pulls him further down the line, and the one thing missing from his contract is any mention of quitting. He came for the wages and told himself it was temporary. He is beginning to wonder what he will end up paying with.
