But his best friend turns up unannounced, a box of illegal pyrotechnics under one arm and a carload of women nobody thought to invite, dead certain that making Chloe jealous is the surest route to her heart. From then on the night runs on its own logic: every detail Zack rehearsed goes off exactly on cue, just never the way he intended. Nobody can say yet who will still be standing when the last rocket burns out, or whether the evening he designed can be rescued at all.
